Recovery Skills Within Reach
A 60-second tool to help clients learn skills in treatment and continue practicing on their own.
A client can understand urge surfing perfectly in a morning group and still forget about it, or simply not use it, when they’re angry, lonely, bored, or craving at 8:30 that night.
And when things are going well, it’s easy to stop practicing the skills that helped.
Developed by a psychologist, Focus Frame is designed to help clients turn what they know into something they do.
TWO PIECES THAT WORK TOGETHER
The frame gives you the pause and the cards guide you what to do with it.
The Frame and the Deck

THE FRAME
Focus Frame
A screen-free, glitter-filled acrylic frame, roughly the size of a phone, with a slot for interchangeable practice cards.

THE DECK
Foundations of Recovery
A recovery-specific deck that pairs with the frame to provide brief practices for cravings, attention, difficult emotions, and everyday recovery challenges.
Reminder + Practice
REMINDER
The visible frame helps bring a skill back to mind.
PRACTICE
The cards provide something concrete to do.
Three steps, about 60 seconds
How it works

Step 1
Choose a card and put it in the frame.
Pick the practice that fits the moment, whether that is a craving, a hard feeling, or a busy mind.
Step 2

Shake the frame.
The moving glitter gives you a short, set window of time to practice.
Step 3

Follow the card’s instructions while the glitter settles.
Work through the practice on the card until the frame is clear again.
Keep it visible as a reminder to return to the skill.

A Look at the Cards
Each card has a short title on the front and a complete practice on the back. Here are four from the Foundations of Recovery deck.

FOR TREATMENT PROGRAMS
Clinical Integration
Designed for residential treatment, PHP, IOP, outpatient, recovery-support, and continuing-care settings. It fits alongside your existing programming, so there is no new curriculum to adopt.
Individual sessions. Introduce a card, practice it together, and choose one for the week ahead.
Groups. Open or close a group with a shared 60-second practice.
Between sessions. Clients keep the frame where they will see it and practice the skill on their own.
After discharge. The same cards from treatment go home with clients for continued practice.
